Showcase: BSU “The Asé Awards”
Friday, February 27 at 6:30 PM (doors open at 6:00PM)
Saturday, February 28th at 2:30PM - Family Show
Each year, Black Student Union puts on a culture show, showcasing the variety of cultures in the Black diaspora. This year, we are presenting “The Asé Awards,” with Ase meaning “the authority to make things happen,” often translated as “so be it” or “so be so.” Inspired by awards shows, BSU is ready to present an award show-themed production to highlight black excellence and empowerment. As we take a dive into Black history and explore many cultures, audience members will walk out with a brand new, eye-opening understanding of Black excellence around the world.
The purpose of Black Student Union is to educate the IMSA community about the culture and heritage of Black people. We strive to erase misconceptions pertaining to the Black community and replace them with a more informed view, both within the student body and in conjunction with administration, to make the campus a more equitable space for the Black community. We also aim to create a safe space amongst the Black community on campus to grow and understand more about themselves and their culture (inclusive of all facets of Black culture … Caribbean, African, African American, etc)
